Why wouldst thou then be saddened,
O thou my very soul?
Devote thyself to love him
Who's called Immanuel!
Put trust in him alone,
He will set all in order
And further what concerns thee
As thee will blessed make

For God forsaketh no one
Who doth in him put trust;
He bides true to his people
Who in him firmly trust.
Though life deal strange with thee,
Yet thou ought not be frightened!
With gladness wilt thou marvel
How God will rescue thee.

With him thou canst act boldly,
E'er undismayed at heart,
Thou wilt with him discover
What thee doth serve and help.
What God resolves to do,
That can no one hinder
Of /Midst/ all of mankind's children;
All goes as he commands.

Although soon from hell's cavern
The devil should himself desire to rise against thee
And rage before thy face,
Yet must he, put to scorn,
Desist from his deceptions,
With which he hopes to catch thee;
For thy cause God assists.

He sets all for his honor
And for thy blessedness;
God's will no man can hinder,
Him though it bring much pain.
But what God will not have,
This can no one continue,
It must remain unfinished,
For what God wills is done.

Thus I'm to him devoted,
On him will I rely;
For nought would I yet struggle
But what he doth approve.
Awaiting this, I rest,
For his will is the best way,
I hold this sure and firmly,
God act howe'er he would!

Lord, grant that I thine honor,
Yea, all my living days,
With heart unfeigned may augment,
And give thee praise and thanks!
O Father, Spirit, Son,
Thou, who with purest mercy
Avertest need and danger,
For evermore be praised!
